Future in Focus: Building a More Unified MCS for 2025 and Beyond

After another strong year of progress and growth in 2024—including acquiring a company, adding a line of business and doubling the size of our existing business—MCS is poised to take on even more new opportunities and challenges in 2025.

“In 2025 and really for the next two years, I see our trajectory continuing,” says MCS CEO Craig Torrance. “We want to see our business lines continue to drive more customers, more markets, more services, better software and more great people.”

As we look ahead to the new year, Torrance shares his thoughts on where MCS is headed and his vision for building on our success.

Embarking on our unifying strategic action plan

In 2024, MCS developed a strategic action plan for the next five years for every aspect of the business to clearly define where we want to be in the future. A theme emerged during the plan's development that has become known as Twist the Rope, where each of our business lines—Mortgage, Residential, Commercial and Government Services—currently exist as separate “threads,” we see a future where they are twisted together in a way that will make more sense for the company and strengthen the overall MCS rope.

MCS-Twisting-the-Rope-graphicWhat does this look like in practice? It means continuing to bring teams together under shared systems and processes, cross-training team members and utilizing partners in various capacities. Our shared services teams like Finance, IT and Marketing will be critical in bringing the different business threads together via various initiatives, especially evolving our technology stack.

“This model allows internal team members to float between the different business lines and more effectively support the organization, vendors and clients,” Torrance says. “I think if we successfully twist that rope, we can add in new threads as we continue to grow our overall business.”

Growing our government services business

MCS expanded its offerings in 2024 by launching a new line of business, Government Services. This new unit builds on our nearly 40 years of experience in facility and property maintenance to deliver those services to federal government agencies and has already yielded its first contract. We anticipate ongoing growth in this line of business as we continue to bid on contracts into 2025 and as industry insiders learn more about MCS as its newest big player.
Adding the next thread

As for what the next thread will be, Torrance sees potential in different markets. One is student housing, a market that has surged in value to over $10 billion in the U.S. So far, MCS has started taking on work in this vertical without making it a formal business unit, leveraging the team and capabilities of the Residential Services business line.

Continuing to be agile to meet market needs

Progress in business is rarely a straight line. After all, there are many forces beyond an organization’s control. So, while MCS has definitive goals for 2025 and beyond, Torrance is also keenly aware of the need to be able to pivot based on industry trends and shifts.

“In the industries we work in, the need to remain agile and be able to quickly change direction is baked into the business,” he says. “We’re always creating contingency plans based on possible, as well as anticipated, changes. And I believe if we can better harness our power by twisting the rope it will help us continue to grow and progress even when that means going in a new direction.”

Helping our People Shine

Supporting our employees is always a key component of our business efforts. The company recently launched a new Learning Management System (LMS) and the training team is working on programs to harness the system’s full potential for providing various training to bolster the skills of our employees. In 2024, our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) team–Shine Brighter Together–launched two Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and will look to add new opportunities in 2025.
